Planning skidding operation techniques in forest management

The planning and skidding course is geared at teaching techniques to facilitate the skidding of logs in the forest and provide guidance for the operators of heavy equipment. In planning the skidding, demarcation is done through standardized signaling for the tractor along the trail during the skidding of the logs to the log decks. For the entrepreneur or the community, the main benefit this course can provide is an increase in productivity and a reduction in skidding-related operating costs. An unprecedented experiment that was conducted in Eastern Amazon in 1996 demonstrated that planning may lower the costs related skidding and deck operations by up to 37% in comparison with non-planned harvesting. Planning also brings benefits to the workers, who will be able to work in better safety and practicality conditions.
